Terms of Service

Who you're dealing with

As required by the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002:

We deal with customers by email, at hello@citepoint.ai.

The service

Citepoint finds the buyer questions where AI assistants recommend other companies, writes pages that answer those questions, publishes them to your website, CMS or code repository, builds small free tools for your site, helps you get listed and pitched on the sites AI engines cite, and tracks how often AI engines mention and cite you.

Your account

You need an account to use the service. Keep your sign-in details safe and tell us at hello@citepoint.ai if someone else gains access. You're responsible for what happens through your account and for the people you invite to your workspace. You must be at least 18 and using the service for a business.

You may only add domains you own or are authorised to act for.

Plans and billing

Plans and prices are on our pricing page, in US dollars. Any sales tax or VAT that applies where you are is added at checkout, and shown before you pay. There's no free trial: the free scan on our website shows what Citepoint finds, and plans are paid from the start.

• Payment. You buy your subscription from Lemon Squeezy, our reseller and merchant of record. It takes payment, holds your card details, charges any sales tax or VAT, and sends your invoices and receipts. Its buyer terms cover the purchase; these terms cover the service. We never see your full card details.
• Renewal. Paid plans renew automatically, monthly or annually, at the price shown when you subscribed, until cancelled.
• Changing plans. Switch plan or billing period in the app at any time. A move up is charged straight away for the rest of the period; a move down leaves a credit on your next invoice.
• Cancelling. Cancel any time in the app. Your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't bill again.
• Money-back guarantee. Your workspace's first payment is refundable in full for 7 days. Refund it yourself in the app under Billing, or email us. The subscription ends when it's refunded. This covers the first payment only, once per customer.
• Cooling off. If you're a consumer under the ECT Act, you may also cancel within seven days of subscribing.
• Annual plans. If the Consumer Protection Act applies to you, you may cancel a fixed-term agreement on 20 business days' notice, and we may charge a reasonable cancellation penalty as that Act allows.
• Price changes. These apply from your next renewal, and we'll tell you at least 30 days beforehand.

Plans include limits on pages, tracked prompts, tools, listings and pitches, and brands. Work that exceeds your limits may be paused.

What you publish

You decide what goes live. Pages and tools are drafted from research and from the facts you give us. You can review each one before it ships, or switch on autopilot and let them publish as they're written. Either way the published content is yours and you're responsible for it: its accuracy, anything it says about competitors, and compliance with advertising law and with the policies of search engines and AI providers.

AI-generated text can be wrong. Check anything that matters, especially prices, legal or medical claims, and statements about other companies.

Acceptable use

Don't use Citepoint to:

• publish unlawful, misleading, defamatory or infringing content;
• impersonate another business, or add domains you have no right to;
• publish at a scale or in a way that breaches search engine spam policies;
• attack, overload, reverse engineer or resell the service;
• work around plan limits, rate limits or billing.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we'll tell you why.

Outreach from your mailbox

If you connect a mailbox, Citepoint sends pitches to editors and submissions to directories from it, in your name, capped per day. You're the sender: you're responsible for those emails and for complying with anti-spam and direct marketing law, including POPIA. Every pitch offers the recipient a way to opt out, and we stop emailing anyone who does. Forum replies are only ever drafts for you to post yourself, and they disclose who you are.

The link exchange

The exchange is optional. With it on, related non-competing sites may link to your pages, and your pages may carry a link to theirs. One link per page, only where it fits, marked rel="sponsored", and you can remove any link. We can't promise a link is placed, kept, or counted by any search engine.

Ownership

You own your content: your site details, your pages, your tools and everything you publish. You give us the permission we need to host, process and publish it for you, including sending it to the AI providers and CMS platforms that do the work.

We own the service itself: the software, the design and our own content, including the articles on this site. Any feedback you send us we may use freely.

Things outside our control

Citepoint depends on services we don't run: AI providers, search data providers, CMS platforms, payment and email providers. They change, and AI engines may change how, or whether, they cite any website. We're not responsible for those changes, and we don't promise any particular ranking, mention, citation, traffic or revenue.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the service running but can't promise it's never interrupted. We may change features, and we'll give reasonable notice before removing something significant you rely on.

Ending the agreement

You may stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may end this agreement on 30 days' notice, or immediately if you breach these terms. When your account closes we delete your data as set out in the privacy policy. Pages already published to your own domain or CMS stay where they are; pages we host stop being served.

Liability

The service is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue or data, and our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to what you paid us during it. You'll cover our losses that come from content you publish through the service or from your breach of these terms.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that can't be excluded or limited by law, including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, and nothing limits our liability for gross negligence, fraud or death or personal injury caused by us.

Complaints and disputes

Email hello@citepoint.ai first. We'll reply within 10 business days and try to sort it out directly. If that fails, we can agree to mediation before going to court. If the Consumer Protection Act applies to you, you may also approach the National Consumer Commission or a consumer court.

Law and jurisdiction

South African law governs these terms, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. Where the Magistrates' Courts have jurisdiction over the amount in dispute, either of us may bring the claim there.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email you or show a notice in the app at least 30 days beforehand. Using the service after the change takes effect means you accept it.
