Guide
See your title and meta description on Google
How long titles and descriptions can be
Google truncates by pixel width, not characters. Titles fit about 580 pixels, roughly 55 to 60 characters. Descriptions fit about 920 pixels on desktop, roughly 150 to 160 characters, and less on mobile. The preview measures width the way the results page does.
Writing snippets for buyer intent
Put the thing being compared or chosen at the start of the title. In the description, answer the question in one line and give a reason to click, like a comparison table or current pricing. AI engines read the same title and description when they decide which sources to open.
Questions
Good to know.
Does Google always use my meta description?
No. Google rewrites it when another passage matches the search better. A description that directly answers the page's main question is kept more often.
Why is my title cut off earlier than 60 characters?
Wide letters like W and M take more pixels. The preview measures real width, so trust it over a character count.
Should the brand be in the title?
At the end, if there's room. The words that match the search belong first.
